NotesIn9 hits 63 hours of Free Video tutorials

I’m in the process of moving all my hosted video files to YouTube and updating the blog posts. Let me tell you this is a PAIN IN THE BUTT! But when it’s all said and done I should be able to cancel my video host account and save around $20 per month.

A little while ago, without my even asking, 2 people reached out to me to offer generic help. This was unexpected and meant a great deal to me as my websites and information is a mess and I’m just overwhelmed. Sadly I’ve been so busy and disorganized I barely have time to give them things to do.

However I recently did get some very key help from Tim Briley who gave me a key jumpstart in some video organizing needs. Thanks Tim! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the assistance. Tim is helping maintain a database of show information. With his help I’ve now migrated the first 100 episodes to YouTube and updated, I believe, all the corresponding blog posts. The rest will be rather slow going as I’ve got to upload maybe 50 shows to YouTube.

But tonight I was looking at my completed master show list which has all the show times. So I thought I’d get them into a spreadsheet and see where we stand.

Assuming my math is accurate then NotesIn9 has now produced 221,760 seconds of shows or to shorten it 63 hours of videos!

Wow! 🙂

Big thanks to all the contributors who helped make this possible!!!

P.S. Once I get all this clean up done I hope to actually get back to producing more show! Oh to dream. haha

Goodbye headphones

Sadly my trusty Logitech headphones have come to the end of the road.

I think I recorded almost every episode  of NotesIn9 with them except for maybe the first couple shows. So I definately got my money’s worth from them. I’ve replaced them with another Logitech pair though I don’t like those nearly as much. But maybe I’ll get used to them.

Thanks headphones. It’s been a good run. 🙂

NotesIn9 hits 300,000 downloads

Between my libsyn.com hosting and YouTube, the total downloads/views for NotesIn9 have now hit 300,000.

Not too shabby for my little corner of the internet I think.  Was almost a year ago that I announced 250,000 downloads.  So looks like there’s still strong interest in XPages.  It’s also good to see people doing lots of videos on their own site or via OpenNTF!

I do have more shows coming up.  A great one by Sean McManus will be up next.

Hope everyone has a great 2015!  Thanks for watching the show.

NotesIn9 164: Learning XPages Part 5 – Application Properties

In this show we actually go into Designer and create a new database that we’re going to be working with for our application and I have a little discussion on some of the application properties that are useful for XPages Developement.

Some Notes:
This show is I believe the first in the new larger Full HD resolution of 1980×1020. This will let me get more on the screen but might be harder to see if you typically use a smaller device. Please let me know how this size works for you.

Also – I’m initially publishing this FIRST to YouTube. It’s not going to be available to off-line download for a little bit. I’ve run out of my monthly quota on Libsyn and don’t want to pay more to up it so close to the end of the month. To I’m trying this as an experiment rather then just waiting to publish it. In November I’m going to try a YouTube plugin that in theory should allow me to use just YouTube and still provide a link for an easy download. I’m just waiting for that to be released. If that works then I might be able to move just to YouTube BUT I would lose an RSS feed for the shows and especially lose iTunes. 🙁 So I’m not sure yet, just trying to find my options. Please let me know if anything there seems like it might be a problem for you.

Since this is Embedded YouTube – you probably want to play this on “full Screen” and it should use the resolution 1080p. If it doesn’t you should be able to change it. Anything lower will probably not look as sharp as usual. Like I said – this is an experiment.

XPages and iOS8 Situation Update 3 – Second Fix

Ok lets update the situation.  As far as I know we started with 3 problems regarding XPages and iOS8 .

1. Uploading photos to a web app doesn’t work.

2. XPages Mobile Controls don’t work

3. An Edit box with Typehead / drop down selection doesn’t work.

In my last post I mentioned that Domino 9.0.1 FixPack 2 corrects issue #3.

Now I can report that iOS 8.0.2 corrects issue #1.  In testing I was able to upload a photo again where I could not with 8.0.0.  Technically it was corrected with 8.0.1 but it seems that Apple used the same quality control that I use on my applications and pulled it.  🙂

That leaves the big one.  iOS8 doesn’t work with Mobile controls.

IBM is aware of this and is actively working on a solution though I do not yet have any idea of a time frame.  Even though we have a key app that uses Mobile controls, we’re trying to wait for the official IBM solution.

If you can’t wait then some people are reporting it’s possible to load Dojo 1.9.4 manually.  See this post on StackOverFlow.  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25935842/xpages-mobile-controls-not-working-with-ios-8

Obviously that’s a VERY UNSUPPORTED thing to do so if you go that route be careful.  While it’s reported to fix Mobile controls I’m kinda afraid that it might very well break something else that might not turn up right away.  So for now we’re trying to hold off and wait for the IBM Solution.

Hope this info helps.

iOS 8 Breaks XPages Mobile Controls

You can’t click.  You can’t do a thing.  I believe it’s a dojo thing but I’m not sure.

I’m about to test FP2 and will update this post.

This… is  BAD!!
